What gets me more choked up than a story about two people in love who aren’t able to be together?
Well, there’s that horrible anti-smoking commercial where the little boy can’t find his mother and begins to cry. That kills me. What kind of mother lets her baby do a commercial like that where he’s being emotionally tortured just to make a buck to sock away for college? I don’t even smoke and I had to be subjected to that.
Celeste & Jesse Forever, a film starring Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg is that kind of movie – a couple marries young but eventually decides to separate and they both have trouble cutting the cord.
The movie also stars Elijah Wood and Chris Messina (another favorite of mine).
I watched it as my unconscious husband lay snoozing against my butt one night. I realize this movie has been out for a while. I tend to notice things after everyone else does. If you haven’t seen it you should. It’s a romantic dramady that’ll probably make you root for Celeste and Jesse staying together (if you’re a cheesy, sucker-for-love like me), otherwise you’ll want Samberg’s character to stay with the hot Belgian chick he starts dating. I don’t want to ruin the ending so I’ll try not to say too much more.
You just can’t have your cake and eat it, too. A lesson we’ve probably all learned at one point or another.
(Doesn’t that cake look good? Here’s the recipe.)
